The 4th of July is one of those holidays, like Halloween, that can be tough to call dibs on if you’ve never hosted a party before. We tossed around the idea of having one this year, but then we got invited to FOUR others on the same day and that was a big chunk of our hypothetical guest list. Womp, womp. (I do get to throw a booze-and-painting party at a local art gallery next month! I’ll dish about that after it happens.) Anyway, we’re party hopping instead of hosting this year but in case you’re the one wrangling a crowd, here’s a little Independence Day inspiration:
I eat chips like it’s my job, so I’m all over the patriotic mix of chips and salsa. I’ll just take that whole thing, thanks. In case you’re not a raging carbohydrate monster, the fruit salad is another festive food choice. Before I clicked through to read the recipe I assumed those were apple chunks, but they’re actually jicama! Bonus points for the mint and honey dressing, too.
As for the decor, it’s going to be 9000 degrees and humid for most of us, so I like the idea of keeping it simple and saving yourself the (sweaty) hassle of a complicated setup. Balloons pre-stuffed with confetti? YES. Bandanas used as napkins? BOOM. An easy DIY table runner you can throw down to cover the bird poop on your patio table? HOLLA! I did also find some adorable photo booth props, so if you’re feeling more ambitious or have temperate weather on your side, setting up a backdrop and a prop table might not be a huge deal.
Finally, nail polish designs are an art I have yet to master, but even I can handle one blue accent nail with a star sticker on it. (That’s totally a hand-drawn star in the picture, but I know my limits.)
What are you up to for the 4th? Anybody doing something that’s not party-related? Maybe the beach? Who else really likes the confetti balloons?
