Party Down: 4th of July

By 12comments No tags Permalink 0

The 4th of July is one of those holidays, like Halloween, that can be tough to call dibs on if you’ve never hosted a party before. We tossed around the idea of having one this year, but then we got invited to FOUR others on the same day and that was a big chunk of our hypothetical guest list. Womp, womp. (I do get to throw a booze-and-painting party at a local art gallery next month! I’ll dish about that after it happens.) Anyway, we’re party hopping instead of hosting this year but in case you’re the one wrangling a crowd, here’s a little Independence Day inspiration:

4th of july 2015

fruit salad  //  balloons  //  bandana napkins  //  photo booth props  //  nail polish  //  table runner  //  chips!

I eat chips like it’s my job, so I’m all over the patriotic mix of chips and salsa. I’ll just take that whole thing, thanks. In case you’re not a raging carbohydrate monster, the fruit salad is another festive food choice. Before I clicked through to read the recipe I assumed those were apple chunks, but they’re actually jicama! Bonus points for the mint and honey dressing, too.

As for the decor, it’s going to be 9000 degrees and humid for most of us, so I like the idea of keeping it simple and saving yourself the (sweaty) hassle of a complicated setup. Balloons pre-stuffed with confetti? YES. Bandanas used as napkins? BOOM. An easy DIY table runner you can throw down to cover the bird poop on your patio table? HOLLA! I did also find some adorable photo booth props, so if you’re feeling more ambitious or have temperate weather on your side, setting up a backdrop and a prop table might not be a huge deal.

Finally, nail polish designs are an art I have yet to master, but even I can handle one blue accent nail with a star sticker on it. (That’s totally a hand-drawn star in the picture, but I know my limits.)

What are you up to for the 4th? Anybody doing something that’s not party-related? Maybe the beach? Who else really likes the confetti balloons?

I love all of that! We’re the ones who have already put a dibs on the 4th of july cookout. But our town is bringing back the parade and its at 4:30 on the 4th… which kills a cookout since it would be weird if the hosts left…. I think we’re switching to the 5th. I’d love to make the uncle sam photo props! Though right now my craft priority is keeping up with the Project Live for Auggie Doggie 😉

Oh man, why aren’t they just doing the parade in the morning and get it out of the way?! Our subdivision does one (which is adorable) and it’s always 10 a.m. on the 4th.

Alway love the 4th of July celebration…this year we are hosting a party, so it will be interesting 🙂 … I will have to look on Pinterest for new recipes! I love to cook… especially with a nice/fun decoration! My flags painting series is a perfect addition for this time!

Chips for dinner, and fruit for dessert please. Although I may add a scoop of icecream…..

I’m loving that fruit salad! When I was a kid, my family had the big 4th party in the neighborhood for a couple of years. It was awesome. I had a swing set already, and they’d set up volleyball and lawn bowling for the kids (presumably so the adults could enjoy beverages in relative peace!). This year I’m not doing anything special because I won’t be in the country on the 4th. It’s okay, though, because I can’t even get the nail stickers on my fingernails correctly!

We had big parties on the 4th a couple of times, too, and they were always so fun! Our neighborhood doesn’t really do big gatherings like that now and I’m kind of bummed.

When we lived in Iowa, we always went to a big party that one of Jake’s aunts hosted that included watching a big local fireworks show from her backyard. Now at most we’ll have a few family and friends over, typically before fireworks on the 4th.

Great ideas! The fruit salad looks yummy! We won’t be doing much for the 4th since we have a kitty who’s terrified of the fireworks. That kinda takes all the fun out of the day for me since I hate seeing her so scared. 🙁

Those chips are awesome! I think I could live on chips and queso if I didn’t need, you know, vitamins and such. 🙂
